How to properly set the timezone of WordPress for Salon Booking

If you want that the timezone set on WordPress works well with our Salon Booking plugin be sure to select the name of the city that has your timezone from “Settings > General” WordPress administration.



Do not use UTC format as it will cause problem with our plugin.


The same thing if you use Google Calendar synchronisation option of Salon Booking. Be sure that the timezone set on your WordPress install is the same you have set on your Google Calendar.



How to debug Salon Booking plugin

Sometimes after you’ve installed our plugin something seems not working well.

What to do in these cases? First of all: NO PANIC!

This short guide will help you out getting your stuff working again in no time.




You need to make three simple tests:

1 – Let’s control if you are using the latest version of Salon Booking

We use to make new releases almost every two weeks, as we add new features and fix some bugs. So the starting point of your debugging process is to check if you are using the latest version.

2 – Deactivate all your plugins but Salon Booking

Once done, see if your problem has disappeared. If so activate one by one all your plugins and every time check if the problem is back.

If enabling a specific plugin you see that the problem is back again then that means that there is a conflict with that specific plugin.

Now you decide if it’s really important for you having that plugin active then report to us the problem and we try to see if there is a workaround. If you don’t really need it just delete it, end of story.

3 – Switch to a standard WordPress theme

Sometimes happens that even deactivating all your plugins in use the problem persists, it’s time now to switch to a standard WordPress theme and see what’s happen. The problem is disappeared now? Then there is a conflict with your current theme.

What to do? Report it to us and we help you to find a solution.

How to translate Salon Booking plugin into your language

UPDATE 13/12/2017

Since the 3.17 version Salon Booking has bundled all the available translations from Transifex. 

That means that you only need to set your favorite language on your WordPress settings then Salon Booking will automatically use that language, if available.

You can always improve the available translation using a plugin like “LocoTranslate” or similar.



If you need to translate our plugin into your own language this is the guide you need to read before proceeding.

Before starting translating the plugin you better check on web platform if someone has already did it for you.

Go to this address:

Look at the available translations, and if you find the one you need, let’s create an account, it’s free.

Once logged in you can decide what to do, if simply to download the translation and use it, or to request to be added as “translator” to complete or improve the translation you are interested in.

Let’s say you want to use one of those available translations for your plugin.

These are the step to follow.

1 ) Download the translation file from transifex.

Look at the screen print:


2 ) Rename the .po file this way: “salon-booking-system-xx_XX.po”, where xx_XX is the language code.

3 ) Generate the .mo file.

Open your .po file with the translation software Poedit. Once opened click on “File > Save”.
Once you’ve saved a new file is created:

4 ) Upload both files, .po and .mo, inside the “wp-content/languages/plugins/” folder of your WordPress install.

That’s it. Check out if everything works well on your website.

Important to know: If you don’t want to loose your translations after an update of Salon Booking plugin, always choose to store them into:

“wp-content/languages/plugins/” folder.

How to update your own translation?

You need to know that all the existing text strings inside our plugin are stored in a file called salon-booking-system.pot that you can find inside the “/languages” folder of Salon Booking plugin.

This file it’s updated by us every time we make a new release.

So, you have different choices:

1 ) Go back to Transifex and complete the missing translations and repeat the process described above.

2 ) Using a WordPress plugin for translations such as Loco translate.

When you open your translation with Loco translate remember to click on “Sync” button before start translating.
This step is very important to allow the system to recognise the new text strings.

3 ) Update your translation using Poedit

Open your “salon-booking-system-xx_XX.po” file with Poedit software, click on “Catalog” and then “Update from POT” or “Update from Sources”. Add the missing translations and then “Save”. At this point you can upload the .po and .mo file updated.


We’ve to say that this last method require a minimum knowledge of Poedit application. We suggest you to use a WordPress plugin for translation.


What to do if some text strings keep not translated?


Sometimes happens that it seems that you’ve translated all text strings, then when you use our plugin some text keeps into original language.

What’s could be the problem?

Most probably you’ve worked on an outdated .po file, that means that not all the text strings ready to be translated are present inside your .po file.

What to do then?

If you use Loco translate or other translation plugins open your translation and click on “Sync” button and search for the missing translation word.

With Poedit open your .po file, click on “Catalog” then “Update from POT” and search for the missing word.
If nothing happens, click on “Catalog” then “Update from Sources” and search again for the missing word.

As we said before you need to have a good knowledge of Poedit in order to use it.

If you still are not albe to find that missing word then report it us we will try to support you.

The golden rule when something goes wrong with translation is to make a research inside your .po file or inside salon-booking-system.pot file. Open it with a text editor and run a “Find” of the word you need to translate. If you find it inside the file that means that you have missed something during your translation process.

If you don’t find it at all that means that is up to us to fix it. That’s it.


How to customise the look and feel of your booking form

One of the most frequently questions we receive from our users is:

“Is it possible to customise the look and feel of the booking form?”, or “How could I modify the CSS of the booking form?”.

So, let’s give you the answers. Yes! you can customise the front-end booking form using your own CSS.

The safest way to do it is to add your Css modifications inside the style.css file of your active child theme.

This way you can override the default css style of our plugin without the risk to loose them in case of plugin updates.

Don’t modify the Css files of the plugin. Furthermore, we will not provide support to modified version of Salon Booking.


Let’s make an example:

If you want to change the background color of the “Next step” button you can open your browser inspector, select the button element and look for the CSS declaration that control its color.

Look at the screen print.



Then open the style.css of your active child theme and paste the same CSS declaration, in this case:


change the  color code


then save the file and update via ftp.

This is the final result.

just few lines to introduce you Salon Booking 2.2 new version.

Our continuos improvement process keeps on without rest to offer you the best experience with our plugin.

On 2.2 version brand new features have been added, let’s go in depth:

1 – Holidays rules

Now you can create as many rules as you want to setup those days  when your shop is off for holidays or bank holiday or whatever reason you have.

2 – Offset between reservations

Now you are able to add a time interval between two sequential reservations where new bookings are not allowed.

3 – New “Tools” section

Now you’ll find a new menù item called “Tools” where we’ve added a field that retrieves all your plugin settings from database in case you need to export them to another WordPress install or for debugging purposes.

We’ve even made some general layout improvements to the back-end Calendar in order to give you a better experience and improve its usability.

We’ve changed the order of submenu items in the back-end of our plugin that reflects a better logic and usability.

We’ve even solved a major bug on our booking algorithm that was affecting some booking cases.

We are still working on a Multi-shop big feature that we count to release by the begin of Febraury that will allow you to manage more branches of your Salon on the same WordPress install.

finally we have been able to release our 2.0 version that marks an important step forward over our continuos development process.

Salon Booking plugin 2.0 version has been equipped with a lot new features that we hope you’ll appreciate soon.

Let’s go in depth:

User booking cancelation from front-end

Your customers now can  cancel a booking from a login protected page on the front-end called “My Bookings account”.

The administrator can decide if to enable or not this feature from the back-end.

Custom services and category order

Now you can set your favourite order for your services and the service’s category using a simple drag&drop from back-end.

Stripe as new payment gateway

We have added Stripe as a second payment method alternative to PayPal. You can choose from back-end settings which one to use.

Custom payment methods development guidelines

We provide some guidelines for developers that intend to implement custom payment gateways.

New booking status called “Payment pending” to be used when a new reservation is made from the back-end that require the customer to pay online in order to confirm the reservation.

Furthermore we’ve made many UI improvements such as:

Full redesign  of back-end settings tabs

Much more clear and intuitive UI elements and layout grid in order to simplify  the management of plugin settings

Date and time picker improvements on mobile and tablet

For a better user experience on mobile devices, the date and time picker is now more easy to use.

Now you’ll have all the most important informations just from the back-end archives pages in order to have everything important under control at first sight.

We’ve even solved a bunch of bugs on every front thanks to our users feedback.

What’s next? Well, a lot of things.

For the next release we are working at “Users Review system” to give your customers the opportunity to send you a feedback about  your services. This way you can increase your relationship with your customers and benefit from their comments and suggestions to improve your offer.

Soon we’ll start working over a major improvements that should make our plugin ready for  “Multi Shops” management. We hope to complete this feature by the end of January.

A new version of Salon booking system plugin


a new version of Salon Booking system plugin has been released, the 1.3.0 version.

Whats new on this version?

Two important brand new features:

1 – Google Galendar integration

Now you can connect our plugin with your Google Calendar account and sync your bookings with your preferred Google Calendar.
This way you can share your agenda with your staff members and have your upcoming bookings always under control.
Isn’t great?

2 – Add booking from back-end

What’s happen when you receive a telephone or in person reservation? Now you can easily add this booking from the back-end of WordPress and have a real-time control of time/date slots availability and send an email confirmation to your clients.

Furthermore in this release we have solved some new bugs and make a little improvements on our code.

What’s next? We are tireless working on brand new features such as:

– Booking cancelation from front-end
– Back-end UI redesign

We count to complete this two important improvements  by the end of November.
